Explanatory examples of public projects

It is important to understand that these examples are very simplified and condensed. Their purpose is to conceptually clarify the essence of the processes of the Public Platform, to start a dialogue and initiate the thinking process. The development of more realistic examples respectively requires a realistic amount of time that has not been allocated for the matter.

Tree felling

Peter came up with some new, very efficient business model for tree-felling. He began the project in the Public Platform, has documented the concept, and began modeling business. Through the Online Portal Peter met with other people. The guys had talked a bit, hit it off and decided to work together under the leadership of Peter.

Then Alex comes along. He is very interested in the Peter’s model, but has his own slightly altered vision.  Peter tried to objectively accept Alex’s recommendations, but they unfortunately did not reach a compromise. Alex had started a new project in the Public Platform which was an exact copy of Peter’s project (open source). In the project’s version history, the fact that Peter was the original project designer will be stored permanently.

One of the people from Peter’s project preferred the direction which Alex was moving in and decided to move to his project, and perhaps even stayed on both projects. This should not cause any feelings of betrayal, as it normally would in the old model, because the socio-economic environment of the Public Platform is designed to nurture a culture where people act in the name of society, while guided by personal consciousness, interests and beliefs and not by narrow-minded groupthink.

Gradually, both projects grew up. Alex’s project had received increasing audience recognition and had been prototyped in real conditions in the forests of British Columbia. After Peter began seeing these real results, he realized that there was no value in continuing his separate project branch. Peter then joined Alex’s team, objectively receives a high position and makes a number of improvements which are now easy to verify in practice using the realization of the first prototype.

At one point in time too many  people ended up joining the project. Objectively, a certain portion of them would move to other projects, start a competitive branch, or carry out the implementation of projects by issuing a franchise by using the prototype. One can also translate the project into other languages, adapt to different standards and start prototyping in other countries.

Clarifications:

·         Those who model the business and those who implement it in the real world do not necessarily have to be the same people. Although it is desirable, especially in the case of the prototype.

·         The funding and implementation of prototypes do not necessarily imply starting completely new business. In most cases it is reasonable to apply the model to an already existing company. Actually, while projects mature in the open online environment, it becomes possible for them to find interested companies and establish firm contacts.

·         As with Wikipedia, the same person can model any amount of businesses or projects. At one point in time his participation will be compensated by royalties from real business profits.

·         Our project can be considered a realization of Wikinomics. Future collaboration with its authors seems quite reasonable.

Public car design

Peter set about trying to create a new body design for a car, as he became tired of the lack of new trends. He is not able to paint, but is able to describe the concept in words, so he created a new project in the Public Platform, and outlined his ideas. Alex, an artist, saw Peter’s idea, joined the project, drew a few sketches by hand and attached them to the project which was initiated in the idea marketplace. Maxim, the 3ds-Max designer, having seen Alex’s sketches, also joined the project and contributed in the form of 3D-models and video clips.

The project was noticed by a big car manufacturer. When the new design was successfully used by designers at the plant, the royalties went to the project on the Public Platform. The income was divided equally between the participants.

Why manufacturer can’t just steal the design? Yes, in general, it is possible.

·         First, to introduce and adopt a new approach to the economy we must initiate an attempt and dynamically solve the problems as they arrive.

·         Second, the license for all ideas of the Public Platform will involve fees that go to the relevant project. The enterprise will also protect the rights of the people to the full legal extent.

·         Third, it is beneficial to the vendors to encourage people's creative initiative and not “profitable” to deceive people.

How to divide the royalties between the participants? We can make a system similar toshares. Each participant will be given a certain number of shares. When it comes to new member, old members can allocate new shares, so their share will be diluted. Upon receipt of the royalties, they will be distributed in direct proportion to the number of shares each participant holds.

NOTE: The Public Platform will actually become an open public library of patents that may be freely used in any projects. The system monitors all connections between patents and through a specific fair process, distributes the profits coming from commercial activities.

Public cases against corporations and government officials

A certain corporation in collaboration with a number of officials, decided to demolish a park. Peter has found out about these insidious plans, gathered some information and started a corresponding project on the Public Platform. Several other activists have joined together and helped bring forward the information in the form of a presentation. After that, a free advertising campaign will have been run on the platform to attract the attention of more people online.

The activists have also begun to disseminate information on the street. A special event has been held in the closest «Pionnering center» where a presentation was shown on the big screen. The people, who do not have computer skills, were able to contribute, financialy perhaps, to the legal support of the project.

All funds collected belong to the project in the Public Platform. Management was entrusted to Peter and all the accounting is transparent. A good lawyer was connected to the projected through the Public Platform. He prepared a clear plan of action. People without access to the Internet were notified of the action to be taken by mail (which can be done centrally through the various accessible project mailing lists on the Public Platform: As the project coordinator, Peter has access to this feature).

The case was won. A special themed party was organized in the «Pioneering center» and the leftover donated funds went to organize the party or were spent on other public projects initiated by people in the community.

Public projects to assist corporations and government officials

As a result of the construction of a new school in a city district, officials see the need to redesign bus routes in the area. It has been decided that the project is to be intiated on the Public Platform, so that people living in the area may participate in the development of a competent plan.

The next morning all the inhabitants of the area who use the Internet portal see in their news feed a request for participation. Many send a request to participate by filling out a simple form. Peter is chosen mainly because he already has experience in coordinating public projects. Peter dives into the action and begins familiarizing himself with the relevant restrictions and regulations, chooses a few colleagues from the available submitted applications, and together they begin developing three potential options for the location of bus stops.

Voting will begin in the area associated with the development. Residents with access to the Internet portal move forward with the online voting. Others may come to the nearest community center and vote using a special personal plastic membership card provided by the community center. Community coordinators assist with all inquiries. In general, many different polls can take place in the centers at one time continuously.

As a result of the voting, the majority of votes were distributed between two options. So Peter decides to unite these two options in one and send the resulting activity log and voting to officials. To compensate the participants for their help on the project, they may each receive some points representing volunteer-hours, the value of which will be determined by the Banking branch.

Functionality for sending mail

Functionality for sending mail can be implemented as a plug-in. See the description of the «plug-in architecture».

A special software component for composing mail delivery is developed in scope of a separate IT-project on the Public Platform. For this software component a special franchising plan is prepared to run a real business for the organization of mailing, so that it can be easily and profitably implemented in any city. Further, the software module is connected to the online portal, and the interface for the project management obtains the appropriate functionality. As more cities are covered with this franchise, this functionality becomes available on more and more projects.

It is reasonable for business plans to be written so that one does not even need to involve new people, but simply offer a range of services for  expanding the efficiency and functionality of the existing post offices: the software will be granted free of charge. A payment for the newsletter will go through the Banking branch financial channels (details are not yet worked out).
